Do´s Exploratory

since the discovery of Ameland in Secondlife I got acquainted with Dr. Do Whybrow PhD, a resident scientist studying virtual domains. Like in the old days art & science are closely related in her approach to ontological and philosophical findings. This spring she developed a special set of lenses to zoom-in so to speak and to filter the matter that makes virtual Ameland tick.

I put up a barrack for her as a place for contemplation, restoration and research. She is also a blogger in a vivid visual style, you find some examples of her observations at the Exploratory

Resistance

protest2

Today I had to act! I no longer accept the hush hush and wheeling and dealing between the politicians and governance on Ameland… I did something unwise I took side in this tricky matter.

Against gas-drilling on Ameland! Against gas-drilling on Ameland! I hope my scant is heard… Against gas-drilling on Ameland, from now on I wear my protest sign and I shall stand at the beach and defend my beautiful island.

Miniature Ameland III

The thing with Secondlife is that it´s extremely dynamic. On May 18th I stood on a bright green shore, letting my little sheep graze, even reflect on the idea of a happy miniature shepherd to go with them, playing his flute in the long warm evening.

Today I got mail from Hannes Breda that he had to move Miniature Ameland to a “better” spot… And look what I found there, my whole lush, fertile island turned into a bare rock!

Cross reality III

On May 11th ETA killed agent Juan Manuel Pinuel. They hanged his portait at the memorial gathering this week in Legutiano. I found this sad picture at the NRC foreign news pages (notice the unhealthy and death trees).

Miniature Ameland II

Since early May the Archipel Foundation is participating in Miniature Ameland as a promotional exhibition and visitors hub. How dreary would this lovely island be without Miniature sheep?

Landscapes

Virtual sight seeing is a hobby of mine. Tonight I went from Herman Bergson´s dunes simulator to Hannes Breda´s new coasts of Terrazo. Hannes did a good job with broad flowing waves and bumpy sea shores, salty spay´s and breakers all over the place… anyway it makes me think about Caspar David Friedrich, in some way it has a heroic touch.

This photo art piece was recently left on Ameland by two Art Month visitors. In November 2008 We talked in the rl-gallery and I showed them virtual Ameland. Now their avatars came back to Ameland and left this remarkable exhibition piece!

The freaky beach installation was build by  Saskia Boelsums & Peter Veen. I know the lady is naked  …but she play’s the organ well…

Birding

luzon_0012

There are several recent sightings of a female Luzon Water-redstart  (Rhyacornis bicolor) at Do´s Exploratory on Ameland. The bird is not shy and is often heard singing from the top of a Black Lace Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) who happens to grow there.

Dr. Do whybrow herself made a beautiful sketch of the site and confirmed the determination. This is the first sighting of this rare vagant on the island.

Dead Parrot

Still life with dead parrot

For me 3D moddeling is tightly connected with taxidermy and the Victorians’ interest in stuffing animals for scientific study, trophies and ornamental purposes. I am a keen observer of all those wonderful frozen tableaux with dried flowers and miniature landscapes under glass and I simply adore those old school educational diorama’s depicting various habitats and continents. I think my life long fascination has to do with stopping and speeding up time.

Polly wants a script! Alberto Linden stated at the editting info of his free 18 prims parrot. His idea is to let this parrot wiggle a bit or display a little prinning now and then. The funny thing is, she won’t get any script from me. On Ameland she has a label on her feet with determination info, that’s how we deal with dead parrots!

Another fine handling of the subject is demonstrated by John Cleese and Michael Palin in their Dead Parrot Sketch. ‘E’s not pinin’! ‘E’s passed on! This parrot is no more! He has ceased to be! ‘E’s expired and gone to meet ‘is maker! ‘E’s a stiff! Bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed ‘im to the perch ‘e’d be pushing up the daisies! ‘Is metabolic processes are now ‘istory! ‘E’s off the twig! ‘E’s kicked the bucket, ‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-PARROT!!
